History runs deep at Cascina Bruni. The Veglio family has been producing wines under its own label since 1897. Located in Serralunga d’Alba, in the heart of Barolo’s production area, Cascina Bruni owns some of the oldest vines planted in the region. 

Today, Cristiano Veglio heads the estate and serves both as vineyard manager and winemaker. Having graduated with a degree in enology from Bordeaux, Cristiano couples ancient Piedmontese tradition with Bordeaux’s innovative spirit and exacting standards. When Cristiano took over management of the winery, his focus was immediately drawn to quality. From the onset, he dropped the estate’s annual production by roughly two-thirds. Given his perfectionism, any yields that do not meet his standards are sold off to other wineries and cooperatives. 

A true believer in the parcelization of vineyards, better known in France as crus, Cristiano crafts each of his wines from single vineyard sites. In his perspective, each cru is different and opens a window into its unique terroir.

Today, the estate owns 12 hectares of vines and has an annual production of 25,000 bottles.  

Since 2017, Michel Rolland serves as consulting enologist to the winery. Only three other wineries in Italy are able to boast such a fact. Michel Rolland has worked with the Veglio family for several years. Today, the family uses the consulting experience of Éric Boissenot, considered by many to be “the King of Medoc.” Boissenot is also known for being the winemaker at many of Bordeaux’s top estates: Lafite Rothschild, Mouton Rothschild, La Tour, and Margaux, to name a few.

The estate works almost entirely with Native Piedmontese varietals with the exception of Cabernet Sauvignon which Cristiano planted in 1993 for his new wine project Sot Monopole. This project was motivated and crafted to pay tribute to Cristiano’s love for the wines of Bordeaux.

Fun fact, the estate shares a truffle forest with the Fontanafredda estate which used to be owned by the King of Italy, Vittorio Emmanuele II.
