HODGKINSON - PRIORAT

The story of the Hodgkinsons is one which originates in the United Kingdom. Peter Hodgkinson’s love for the Spanish countryside propelled him to purchase the small Mas del Habanero estate in the Priorat in 1972. Although vines were planted on the estate, the family had never commercialized any products to the public.

This all changed in 2015 when Peter’s three sons, Luca, Caspar and David, saw the potential of the land their father had purchased and decided to found Hodgkinson wines. The goal was that of creating a boutique winery dedicated to crafting some of the most singular and unique wines in the Priorat.

The family-run estate now covers 4.5 hectares of vineyards and produces a combined total of under 600 cases per year for their Mas Del Habanero and two single vineyard wines, Garnacha Peluda (hairy Grenache) and Cariñena.

Attention to detail is something the Hodgkisons feel very strongly about. The beautiful labels are designed by Peter Hodgkinson who has always had a passion for art. Luca, an oenologist and winemaker by trade, is in charge of winemaking and Caspar is in charge of business-related matters.

We first tasted the wines at the RAW Wine fair in New York City in 2019. From the first swirl in the glass, we fell in love. The rest, as they would say, is history.

We believe Hodgkinson Wines to be the undiscovered gem of the Priorat and we couldn’t be happier to be the estate’s exclusive importers in the province of Quebec.
